Stratford upon Avon or York England

Bath England

West of London
Central England has large cities like Birmingham, as well as Cotswold Hills, famous for beautiful preserved villages of honey-coloured stone. Along the Avon river there are picturesque towns such as Bath, York, and Stratford upon Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

York England

Standing in York, you could believe you are in midieval England of King Richard the Lionheart. But do stop in at Lucy's Coffee Shop and Ice Cream Parlor (top left) for a little change from the usual tea, and perhaps even a scoop of vanilla.

Stratford upon Avon

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players..."
And how nice it is to see a play at the Shakspearean Theater in Stratford, or merely walk the same lovely land that Shakespeare trod in his 'mortal coil'. Also, there are boats aplenty for weekly hire or merely to take an hour's excursion on the River Avon

Birmingham to Nottingham

The North Country

A more open attitude is often found in the people of the North. Perhaps it is a reflection of the open lands and the harder life of the working-class cities such as Liverpool and Birmingham and Nottingham. Perhaps it is something else. Although those who hail from the North sometimes minimize their own importance ("It's only a Northern Song"), their company is often found to be the warmest in England.

To the right is lovely Lake Buttermere, and below it are the runis at Haverthwaite.
Arundel Castle

In the South

Here you find such treats as Arundel Castle, the herediary Seat of The Dukes of Norfolk, open to vistors approximately April through October for nearly 200 years!
Cost for adults last year was
7 pounds 50 pence.

There is also Lavenham, a small town (never over 2,000 people). Its fine-timbered buildings have been restored to all their medieval glory, as in the days when Lavenham was one of the wealthiest towns in England, days when its merchants and their wifes dressed in the finest clothes and jewelry.

This is par for the South,
which even today is seen as the more monied part of the Isle.

Cambridge University England

In the early 13th century, riots in Oxford caused many scholars to flee, fearing for their lives. For reasons unknown, many headed to Cambridge. Relax on expansive green lawns known as The Backs, or go punting.

Outside the university lies the calm East Anglian town of Cambridge. In 1951, King George VI granted Cambridge city status (rather after the fact, with its suburbs already touching the villages of Trumpington, Girton and Cherry Hinton.)
The very moderen M11 motorway links this ageless university town to the hub of power in London. Even better, go comfortably by train with a
