Germany Travel ... See the Beautiful Countryside ... Visit a German Castle
(Click here to Travel Europe the way Europeans do)

Most European countries still have large rural areas that are beautiful and pastoral and deeply satisfying. These are quite delicious, and portray the some of the most pronounced differences between the countries in Europe.
That makes Germany travel all the more fun.

Saarburg A center of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region known for viniculture and tourism. Also called the holiday region. Very ancient vinyards. Two thousand years ago, the Romans continued cultivating the grape vines that Celtic people called the Treverers planted long before the Romans arrived. The Teutonic people of Germany continue that tradition today.

One of the most beautiful places in Germany is the town of Cochem on the Moselle River.
Cochem on Moselle

Hospitality seems to be the stock-in-trade for hotels and resturants in this area. Their living is made from tourists, and they welcome us into their establishments.

Most of the hotels use the slogan Moselromantic, and it seems to be an apt description.

Among the list of things to do (besides snuggling in your hotel room while looking out over the stupendous Moselle River) are a guided tour trough the castle of Cochem (Reichsburg), a boat trip to Beilstein with a sidetrip through a floodgate, a guided tour through Cochem with a chairlift ride to a spectacular panoramic view, bicycling, hiking over a variety of trails, and of course, the gourmet pleasures of the restaurants of the town and surrounding region.

The German Castle Reichsburg

is shown in the picture just above, at the top left corner of the photo.
From the top of the turret you get a sweeping vista of the Moselle and Cochem.
The only question is which view is better... looking up at the castle, or down from it. Visit and decide for yourself.

Neuschwanstein German Castle

Neuschwanstein - the German Castle

In 1869, just after the conclusion of the War between the States in America,
King Louis II of Germany decided to rebuild the ruins of Hohenschwangau near the Pollat Gorge in the Bavarian Alps. The new castle was to be larger than life, with soaring spires and revolutionary devices such as running water on each floor, toilets that flushed, hot water in kitchen and batrooms, and a warm-air heating system.
For this he earned the title of Mad King Ludwig of Neuschwanstein Castle.

Brilliant but misunderstood King Louis did not see the completion of his dream castle, but you can see great Neuschwanstein castle today. Visit Mad Ludwig's Byzantine throne room (the throne, somehow, has gone missing). Hear the acoustics of the Singers Hall with its coffered ceiling, which was inspired, as is much of the castle interior, by the operas of German composer Richard Wagner.
